Buying Snowboard Boots
The selection of snowboard boots is influenced by your skill level, shoe size, and whether you have a passion for riding on piste, in the park, or off-piste. Furthermore, your choice of lacing system is another important factor.
Fit of Snowboard Boots
Your snowboard boots ought to be relatively snug, allowing your toes to just reach the front while still enabling some flexing motion. For a perfect fit, lifting your heel should be kept to a minimum when the boots are laced, ideally none at all.
It is advised that the inner boot be a half size smaller or the same size as your typical shoe size because the boot will stretch and adjust once you have worn it for a while.
Snowboard boots are sized according to EU standards.
Flexibility of Snowboard Boots
- A soft flexibility in the boots offers more forgiveness and stability, making it ideal for park use, and suitable for beginner and intermediate snowboarders.
- Stiffer flex is more commonly found in snowboard boots for piste and off-piste riding, offering edge grip and stability. Such boots provide a faster physical response, which is recommended for somewhat more advanced snowboarders.
Various Lacing Systems for Snowboard Boots
At SkatePro, we classify the three lacing systems like so:
- Traditional laces are like those in normal shoes. Although fastening them takes a bit longer, they are reliable and are straightforward to replace when needed.
- The speed lacing system uses one or two laces and requires a single pull to lace the entire boot, offering convenience and a good fit quickly.
- In the BOA lacing system, small steel wires are tightened using an easy closing mechanism, providing evenly distributed fit. Typically, you will find either a Single BOA or Double BOA option when selecting snowboard boots with this efficient and practical system.
