The Eight Steps to Constructing a Skateboard

Required Tools: A knife and a skate tool (9/16” kingpin socket, 1/2” axle nut socket, 3/8” hardware socket, Phillips screwdriver, and an Allen key)

1. Begin by applying the grip tape. Detach the paper from the grip tape to reveal its adhesive side. Position the sticky side down onto the deck, ensuring it is centred. Gradually press the grip tape down with the piece of paper previously removed.
2. Make incisions at each corner of the grip tape. Lightly score the edges of the board using a tool to create cutting lines for the grip tape. Trim off the surplus grip tape by following the marked lines.
3. Rub the grip tape’s borders with leftover grip tape to produce more robust edges.
4. Create bolt holes. Pierce through the eight designated spots using a pointed instrument (such as a slender Allen key). Employ a Phillips screwdriver to enlarge the holes from the opposite side of the deck.
5. Attach the trucks. Position the bolts into the eight new holes, then fit the trucks. Fasten the nuts onto the bolts and use a skate tool to secure them.
6. Place 2 bearings into each wheel. For each bearing, use your hands to press downwards until the bearing is almost seated within the wheel.
7. Attach the wheels. Position them onto the trucks and secure the nuts with a skate tool. Be cautious not to over-tighten, as this can damage the bearings.
