Ski Jackets
Which Ski Jacket Should I Choose?
Various styles of ski jackets are designed with distinct characteristics. Discover the three primary categories and what they entail below.
Hard Shell Jackets
The preferred choice among skiers and snowboarders is the hard shell jacket. These jackets are exceptionally waterproof, windproof, and light due to having just a single shell layer. They lack insulation, so you can add warmth by wearing a mid-layer underneath. Additionally, they double as practical rain jackets for everyday use.
Insulated Jackets
Insulated jackets resemble hard shell variants but incorporate an inner insulation layer. Ideal for colder weather or for those who are more susceptible to cold, these jackets tend to be less breathable and could result in overheating in milder climates.
Soft Shell Jackets
Soft shell jackets boast the highest breathability among these three types. Crafted from soft, flexible fabric, they allow both moisture and air to pass through. While offering limited resistance to wind and water, extra layers are usually necessary in cold weather. They can also serve as a mid-layer beneath a hard shell jacket.
