Wakesurf Boards
Which Wakesurf Board Should I Purchase?
Your choice of wakesurf board significantly depends on your riding preferences. Wakesurf boards generally fall into three types: Skim shape boards, surf shape boards, and hybrid boards.
Skim Shape Boards
This type of board features slender profiles and symmetrical designs from tip to tail. The thin profile reduces the board's volume, resulting in a deeper ride in the water. This shape offers enhanced control and allows for swift movement response. It is ideal for those seeking a highly responsive board for executing tricks.
Surf Shape Boards
Surf-style wakesurf boards are characterised by thicker profiles, broad tails, and larger fins. This increased thickness enhances buoyancy, allowing the board to sit higher on the water. This board offers smoother movement over water, and the additional surface area on the tail contributes to more forward drive. It is the best option for beginners and those looking to enjoy extended rides and long, controlled turns on water.
Hybrid Boards
These boards provide a balance between skim and surf shape boards. If you desire more push on the water than a skim shape board, along with better manoeuvrability than a surf shape board, then hybrid boards are worth considering.
Which Size Wakesurf Board Should I Select?
When selecting a new wakesurf board, both length and volume should be considered.
Short wakesurf boards tend to be less stable and slower compared to longer boards, making them suitable for intermediate to advanced wakesurf enthusiasts. Longer boards offer higher speeds, are better suited for straight-line riding, and are ideal for novices.
A wakesurf board's volume pertains to the space within its shell, and it plays a vital role in determining buoyancy. A higher volume will support more weight.
