Street Hockey Balls & Pucks
Is Street Hockey Played With a Ball?
When engaging in street hockey, players have the option to use either a puck or a street hockey ball. Although the goal can be makeshift, playing is quite challenging without an object to strike with the hockey sticks.
There exists a substantial range of hockey balls suitable for street hockey, with significant differences in their weight and hardness. When opting to play with a street hockey ball, one must take the anticipated weather conditions into account.
Temperature greatly affects the ball's bounce and also influences how much the ball adheres to the surface and your hockey stick. A soft ball is necessary for very cold conditions, while a particularly hard one is ideal for playing primarily in the hot summer. Generally, street hockey balls are preferred for playing on rough concrete or asphalt.
Conversely, street hockey pucks are normally lighter than their ice hockey equivalents. They consist of lightweight plastic to facilitate sliding over smooth concrete and indoor floors.
