BMX Handlebars
Essential Information on BMX Handlebars
BMX bike handlebars are crucial for maintaining control. These bars are robust and often crafted from 4130 Chromoly, aluminium, or high tensile steel. Many handlebars undergo heat treatment, a method that enhances their strength even further.
BMX handlebars are available as either two-piece or four-piece bars. Two-piece bars consist of two tubes: one curved to form the main bar and the other crossing the āUā shape between the grips for added stability. Four-piece bars have two main bars positioned opposite each other vertically, connected by two crossbars. Your choice ultimately depends on your personal style, as it minimally affects riding performance.
How to Measure BMX Handlebars?
When purchasing BMX handlebars, consider four aspects: rise, width, upsweep, and backsweep. Upsweep refers to the angle at which the grips tilt upwards. Backsweep indicates how the bars curve back from the centre point. Both upsweep and backsweep are largely subjective and depend on personal preference, having little effect on riding feel. The rise signifies the height of the bar and is measured from the lowest to the highest point. Width is determined by measuring from one end of the bar to the other. Typically, the width ranges from about 27 to 31 inches. Let's simplify the process of selecting the appropriate bar.
What is the Right Size for BMX Handlebars?
The rise or height of your handlebar is largely a matter of personal choice. Nonetheless, taller riders often favour higher bars as they offer a more comfortable ride, reducing the need to hunch. You can refer to our Handlebars Size chart for better guidance on choosing the right height.
As for the width, it's advisable to select a handlebar that matches your shoulder width. A slightly broader bar provides greater stability, while some riders prefer a narrower option for improved knee clearance.
