Bushings on cruiser boards are essential for smooth turning. These small rings are crafted from polyurethane and sit within your skateboard trucks. There are primarily two types: cone bushings and barrel bushings. For cruiser setups, cone-cone and barrel-cone arrangements are most prevalent.

The key aspect to consider when selecting new bushings is their hardness (durometer). The same scale applies to both skate wheels and bushings. A higher number indicates a firmer bushing. Softer bushings allow for deeper, carving turns, while firmer bushings offer enhanced stability at higher speeds. The right hardness of cruiser bushings depends on your weight. For younger, lighter riders, it starts around 78A, but typically the durometer for most is about 90A.

When is the Right Time to Replace My Pivot Cups?

There is no set timeline for pivot cup longevity, as it hinges on cruiser board usage frequency. Nevertheless, visible wear, particularly at the bottom, and increased truck noise signal a need for replacement. If frequent changes concern you, applying lubrication or wax may extend their lifespan.
