Roller Hockey Wheels
Which Roller Hockey Wheels Are Right for Me?
It may seem straightforward, but acquiring new inline hockey wheels requires selecting ones that match the size of your current set. Roller hockey frames frequently feature a distinct setup in which each wheel on your skate may vary in size.
To prevent any misunderstanding, many frames indicate the recommended wheel size. For example, if you possess a hi-lo wheel configuration, it might be displayed as: 80-80-76-76. These figures represent the wheel diameter in millimetres. With this setup, your two rear wheels should be 80mm while the front ones should be 76mm - generally, the largest wheels are always fitted at the back of the frame.
Choosing Between Indoor and Outdoor Roller Hockey Wheels
To maximise your enjoyment of roller hockey, it’s important to use wheels specifically crafted for either indoor or outdoor use. Indoor skate wheels for hockey are softer, typically possessing a durometer (wheel hardness) ranging from 72A-76A. These softer wheels offer superior grip on smooth indoor surfaces. Conversely, outdoor wheels often feature a durometer rating of 80A or above to withstand hard, concrete surfaces.
Is it possible to use a single set of wheels for both? In theory, yes. Multisurface wheels, which usually have a durometer of 78A or 80A, can be employed indoors and outdoors. Nevertheless, players who participate in both indoor and outdoor hockey are likely to have a separate wheel set for each.
