Backcountry Cross Country Ski Boots
Backcountry Cross Country Ski Boots Offer Warmth and Comfort
Designed for diverse landscapes and snow conditions beyond groomed trails, backcountry cross country ski boots can be likened to hiking boots. With days spent walking and skiing in them, these boots need to provide comfort, stability, and warmth.
While backcountry, or BC ski boots, may not excel in power transfer, they offer the reliability and durability needed for lengthy snow hikes. Typically made from leather, many of these boots include Thinsulate insulation to keep your feet warm. Additionally, BC ski boots feature high cuffs to reduce the chance of snow entering the boot and to offer ankle support.
Backcountry Boots Must Be Used with Backcountry Bindings
When selecting backcountry cross country boots, ensure they match your BC bindings. There are two primary binding systems for the backcountry: NNN BC and the 75 mm (3-pin) toe system. Only backcountry boots are compatible with these binding systems. Explore our Cross Country Backcountry Binding collection for appropriate bindings.
Backcountry ski boots come with two types of soles, each fitting one of the binding systems. The common sole type connects to the binding via a metal rod similar to classic boots and suits NNN BC binding systems. The boots for the 75 mm toe system have a nib at the toe, akin to telemark boots. Backcountry boots include a broader and thicker metal bar at the front, preventing compatibility with standard cross country bindings.
